Nicola Rae : Earth Projects
All of the projects below involve live, sound frequency visualisations: either as real-time projections onto site, or as site-aware or site-specific installations.

Visualising sound as frequencies, through live audience participation and interactivity, has been of interest to me for many years. However this did not emerge until 2010, through finding Sygyt Software's Overtone Analyzer: a sound emission analyser designed to be used by professional singers as a training tool, but which also has a full screen option for live sonic projections.

Most of these projects involve collaboration in various ways. Collaboration through discussing technical possibilities with artist Paul Malone (my husband) happens on all of my projects: including the companionable practical support that occurs when working alongside each other at the studio or in exhibition spaces. There are also collaborative aspects to agreeing the parameters and possibilities of installations with CUBE4x4x4's curator, Blanka Heinecke, on two projects below. Collaboration also occurs on projects which have been curated to be collaborative, usually collectively by a group of interdisciplinary artists that sometimes includes myself: the collaborative installations that result from working with someone that has different skills and knowledge, extends the technical possibilities in unexpected ways. Visitors that participate in these live installations also become coLaborators through their open experimentation with the sonic possibilities of sound frequency visualisations...
